RESOLUTION NO. 9,663
A RESOLUTION ENDORSING AND ALLOCATING FUNDING FOR THE YOUTH
EMPLOYABILITY PLAN; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A
CONTRACT WITH NEW FUTURES.
WHEREAS, In October 1993, focus groups, made up of local CEO's, managers, educators,
youth service providers and other key leaders, identified Little Rock's employment needs and future
outlook for a group of researchers from Brandeis University; and
WHEREAS, the researchers were contracted by New Futures for Little Rock Youth to come
up with a "blueprint for action" that would lead to a citywide youth employability plan; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the Youth Employability Plan is to implement an integrated,
graduated, connected system through which all 14 through 18 -year -olds in Little Rock can progress
and gain the skills necessary to become employable; and
WHEREAS, the plan is in congruence with the goals of the Little Rock Education
Commission as established during the FUTURE -Little Rock process, and the Education Commission
has given the plan its endorsement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Board of Directors recognizes the need for programs in Little
Rock that will prepare our youth for the workforce and therefore endorses the Youth Employability
Plan.
SECTION 2. That the City Board of Directors allocates $41,400 for the Youth Employability
Plan from the Education Commission Budget. The City Manager will designate the JTPA
Department as the fiscal agent for dispensing of funds.
