4 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY
5 MANAGER TO AWARD $75,000 IN
6 EMERGENCY SHELTER GRANT FONDS TO
7 PROVIDERS OF HOMELESS ASSISTANCE.

9 WHEREAS, the proposals are consistent with the City's
10 Consolidated Plan; and
11 WfDREA.S, the Consolidated Plan identified the provision of
12 emergency shelters for families and those with special needs as
13 having priority; and
14 WHEREAS, City staff developed a Comprehensive Plan which
15 inventoried existing shelter facilities and services and
16 identified areas of unmet need.
17 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
18 THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
19 SECTION 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to award
20 $75,000 in Emergency Shelter Grant Funds to providers of
21 homeless assistance.
22 Advocates for Battered Women - $7,000 - Funding is to make
23 plumbing and electrical repairs and to purchase utilities and
24 food for residents of the shelter.
25 Black Community Developers, Inc. - $10,500 - Funding is to
26 make repairs, install energy efficient windows and expand
27 bathroom facilities at the shelter. Additional funding is
28 included for food.
29 Centers for Youth and Families - $2,500 - Funding is to
30 purchase food and hygiene supplies for residents of the shelter.
31 Centro Hispano - $7,750 - Funding is to provide assistance
32 to homeless families to prevent eviction and to move families
33 from emergency shelters into transitional or permanent housing.
34 The Gaines House, Inc. - $6,000 - Funding is to make
35 structural repairs to the shelter.

GYST House, Inc. - $7,000 - Funding is to provide health
care and food for residents of the shelter, and to provide
transportation assistance for those residents seeking employment.
Our House, Inc. - $24,940 - Funding is for extensive
remodeling of a new shelter to include making the shelter
handicap accessible and adding expanded bathroom facilities.
Salvation Army - $4,500 - Funding is to purchase a
computer, modem, and other equipment to access the "Basic Needs
Network", which is a network of local shelter and service
providers. Through this system, providers can immediately
identify services available to their clients and make the
appropriate referral.
Serenity .House /Chemical Free Living Center- $4,810 -
Funding is to purchase beds, mattresses, and linens for the
shelter.
SECTION 2. This resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its adoption.
