A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE SUPPORT OF TIC
BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF r CITY OF LITTLE
ROCK, ARKANSAS, FOR THE H11CHWAY AND STREET
IMMOVI24FMT PROPOSAL; AND FOR • :1:1'
PURPOSES.

WHEREAS, Governor Jim Guy Tucker and the Arkansas Highway
and Transportation Department have proposed a Highway and Local
Street Improvement Program to provide a much needed
interconnecting system of four -lane highways to tie the state
together and to provide financing for local improvements. This
program provides the potential for increasing economic growth,
safety, and convenience; and
WHEREAS, all projects included in the Highway Improvement
Program will be let to contract in seven years and completed in
nine years; and
WHEREAS, the Highway and Street Improvement Program will
provide additional revenues annually to your county and to each
of the respective incorporated municipalities within the county
(approximately $8 per capita in additional street turnback) for
the exclusive use in maintaining and improving their respective
roads, bridges, and streets; and
WHEREAS, the Governor and Arkansas Highway and
Transportation Department have researched this issue extensively
and feel that this program is the most cost effective and cost
saving way to achieve a comprehensive highway system in
Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Arkansas have overwhelmingly
voiced their concern about the lack of adequate highways and
need for local street improvements.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS.
SECTION 1. THAT the Board of Directors of the City of
Little Rock, Arkansas, supports the. Highway and Street
Improvement Program to be voted on January 9, 1996, and
encourages all of the citizens of the City of Little Rock to
study the proposal and vote "Yes" for both Propositions Numbers
1 and 2 on January 9, 1996.
