Descr /ptioo improve upstream and downstream channels to make existing double V x4' box
culvert more efficient. Construct 16' flat bottom channel between Walker St. and approx,
Gilman St. Construct 14' wide retaining wall channel between Gilman St. and existing
culvert at 36 St. Reconstruct culvert entrance. Construct retaining wall channel for
about 360 ft. downstream from existing culvert. Construct ditch checks. in channel at
✓ustificallbn Under existing conditions 36th St. floods 2 -4 times each year with flood
depths of 1 -2 feet. Water flooding 36th St. floods yards, drives, carports and
occasionally the houses on three lots north of 36th St., and presents a severe hazard to
vehicular traffic. Flooding occurs due to the = adequate capacity of the zxisting double
8'x4' culvert which is complicated by the fact that pressure flow can't be achieved and
inlet /outlet conditions are extremely inefficie_t. The improvements shown above should
increase the return period for flooding on 36th St. from approximately 1 in 6 no. to
something just less than 1 in 10 years.
It is apparent that existing velocities in the area are high and the improvements above
will increase these velocities; therefore, the concrete walls are necessary for ditch
bank erosion protection.

Comments Tne proposed measures
should provide close to 10 year
protection w,en the 36th St. drai
is operating freely. In the event
the drain is backed up due to
backwater on Rock Creek, flooding
will still occur with the
severity being dependent on the
condition cf Rock Creek.

Construct 8,250 L.F. of reinforced concrete open ditch channel from Kanis
Park to Evergreen Road along Briarwood Creek. Improve. bridges and construct
underground storm sever adjacent to Hughes Street and other feasible locations.

1 The existing Briarvood Creek Channel does not have the hydraulic capacity to
contain the ten —year runoff from the watershed. Unimproved channel sections are
threatening to scour beyond drainage easement and .undermine private property.
