RESOLUTION NO. 9,499
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT
WITH DR. MARILYN BAEYANS TO PROVIDE
VETERINARY SERVICES TO THE LITTLE
ROCK ZOO; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, federal law and regulation, in addition to proper
zoo management, require that a veterinarian with experience with
exotic animals be available on a regular basis, and
WHEREAS, after a competitive selection process based upon
qualifications it was determined that Dr. Marilyn Baeyans was
the most qualified doctor seeking this position, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock,
Arkansas, also notes that Dr. Baeyans has provided exemplary
service to the Little Rock Zoo in the past,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to enter into a
contract with Dr. Marilyn Baeyans of Little Rock, Arkansas, for
an amount not to exceed $23,000, at the rate of $70 per hour to
provide veterinarian services to the animals of the Little Rock
Zoo for a period of one year, to be automatically renewed at the
end of each fiscal year for a term not to exceed four years.
Section 2. Funds for this contract shall come immediately
from Account No. 100 - 210 - 3130 -5071, with the balance of funds to
be directed in the 1996 annual budget.

RECOMMENDATION AND DISCUSSION: It is recommended that the bid submitted by
Dr. Marilyn Baeyans D.V.M., be accepted. Dr. Baeyans is thought to be the
only qualified veterinarian for the diverse requirements of a zoo
veterinarian. Bids were taken to verify this and she was the only respondent
from twenty -two area clinics. It is further recommended that this contract be
renewed for four additional years with City Managers approval.
