3 A RESOLUTION ADOPTING RAGUSA, SICILY AS A
4 SISTER CITY TO LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS; AND
5 FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

7 WHEREAS, visits by officials of Ragusa, Sicily, to the City
a of Little Rock, Arkansas, and by Little Rock Sister City
9 Commissioners Alfred Williams, Britt Rice, and Anthony Black to
10 Ragusa, Sicily, have sparked a mutual interest in the cultural
11 and economic development of the two cities; and
12 WHEREAS, Ragusa, Sicily, is the Capital of the Province of
13 Ragusa and is a beautiful town situated on several hill
14 formations in the Iblei Mountain Range; and
15 WHEREAS, Ragusa is reknowned throughout Sicily for its
16 unique and impressive baroque architectural buildings
17 constructed in the Ibleo style; and
is WHEREAS, Ragusa, Sicily, has stated public goals that are
19 very similar to those of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas,
20 including, but not limited to, implementing educational and
21 medical information exchanges, developing agricultural programs,
22 and encouraging tourism; and
23 WHEREAS, both Ragusa, Sicily, and the City of Little Rock,
24 Arkansas, are cities of culture and art for their respective
25 areas; and
26 WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, wishes to
27 develop sister city relationships with communities in other
28 countries that share the same basic values as do the citizens of
29 the City of Little Rock, Arkansas.
30 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
31 THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
32 SECTION 1. The City of Little Rock, Arkansas, hereby adopts
33 Ragusa, Sicily, as a sister city and agrees to be adopted as a
34 sister city by Ragusa, Sicily.
35 SECTION 2. The Mayor and the City Clerk are authorized to
36 enter into any written documents necessary to reflect this close
