A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING DESIGN
COMPLETION OF THE THIRD STREET VIADUCT
PROJECT USING THE OFF -SITE DETOUR
OPTION.
WHEREAS, Resolution 8,313 (June 5, 1990), authorized the
City to enter into an agreement with the Arkansas Highway and
Transportation Department to construct a replacement structure for
the Third Street viaduct; and
WHEREAS, funding for the project shall be 80% Federal
Bridge Safety and Rehabilitation Funds, and 20% City funds; and
WHEREAS, Resolution 8,786 (September 15, 1992), authorized
a contract with Garver and Garver, P.A. for engineering design
services; and
WHEREAS, city staff, Garver and Garver, P.A., and
McClelland Consulting Engineers, Inc., have investigated all
possibilities to arrive at the safest and most economical method
to replace this structure; and
WHEREAS, the two consultants and City staff recommend that
the new bridge be constructed by utilizing the off -site detour
option, which is, completely removing the existing bridge,
constructing the new structure in the same location, and detouring
traffic off -site while construction is underway.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. The Public Works Department shall take necessary
steps to complete the design of the Third Street viaduct by
implementing the off -site detour option.
