87891 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 RESOLUTION NO. 8,789 A RESOLUTION ADOPTING SANTA CRUZ, BOLIVIA, AS A SISTER CITY TO LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. 544 WHEREAS, Santa Cruz, Bolivia, a city situated in east - central Bolivia is the fastest growing center of agricultural colonization in Bolivia and is the center of oil and natural gas production; and WHEREAS, Santa Cruz is Bolivia's second largest city and is a trade center for the subtropical and tropical crops (including sugarcane, rice, coffee, and tobacco; and WHEREAS, Santa Cruz manufactures leather products and alcohol, has a sugar refinery and an oil refinery; and WHEREAS, Santa Cruz has a stated public goal, very similar to that of the City of Little Rock, that participatory democracy flourish and be marked by examples such as building citizen awareness and activating local economic development; and WHEREAS, both Santa Cruz, Bolivia and the City of Little Rock, are cities of culture and art for their respective regions; and WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock wishes to develop sister city relations with communities in other countries that share similar values as do the citizens of the City of Little Rock. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. The City of Little Rock, Arkansas, hereby adopts the City of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, as a sister city and agrees to be adopted as a sister city of Santa Cruz. SECTION 2.
