A RESOLUTION OF INTENT TO LOCATE SEVEN ALERT CENTERS
IN NEIGHBORHOOD LOCATIONS IN VARIOUS AREAS OF THE CITY

WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock in the fall of 1991 opened its first Neighborhood Alert
Center at 2200 Arch Street in a Downtown Neighborhood Area; and
WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock proposed as a fundamental part of its Little Rock 2000
operating funds the establishment of at least 15 alert centers throughout the City of Little Rock; and
WHEREAS, in the absence of operating funds from Little Rock 2000 the City of Little Rock
in its FY 1992 budget managed to appropriate funds to establish seven new Neighborhood Alert
Centers; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock recognizes the need for more
alert centers than are possible within budget constraints, but also the need to do its best to
undertake the alert center effort insofar as possible within the budget constraints; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police and the Directors of Fighting Back and Neighborhoods and
Planning have evaluated various neighborhood areas of the City; and
WHEREAS, the criteria used by these persons and staff in determining recommended areas
included: condition and type of housing, concentration of rental units, participation if neighborhood
religious organizations, schools, and resident groups, nature of police calls, type of drug activity, etc.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. That seven new alert centers are to be developed in locations chosen by
criteria in the following neighborhoods: East Little Rock, Stephens, Central High, Southwest, John
Barrow, and Stifft Station.
