A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE , .
EXPENDITURE OF $200,000 IN JOB TRAINING
PARTNERSHIP ACT (JTPA) FONDS FOR A
COMPUTER TRAINING PROGRAM FOR OUR HOUSE,
A SHELTER FOR THE HOMELESS.
WHEREAS, funding has been provided to the Little Rock JTPA
program from state set -aside monies to fund a computer training
program for residents of Our House, a shelter for the homeless;
and
WHEREAS, the JTPA funds will underwrite the cost of
training 53 shelter residents in basic computer skills; and
WHEREAS, this training program is the first of its kind in
the country for homeless shelter residents; and
WHEREAS, IBM has donated to Our House approximately $85,000
in state -of- the -art computer equipment with an additional pledge
contingent upon approval of JTPA funding; and
WHEREAS, successful completion of this training will
qualify individuals for entrance into IBM's Computer Jobs Training
Center.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1: The Little Rock Private Industry Council is
hereby authorized to expend up to $200,000 in Job Training
Partnership Act (JTPA) funds for a computer training program for
Our House, a shelter for the homeless.
