RESOLUTION TO RENAME LITTLE ROCK
RIVERFRONT PARK TO THE JULIUS
WHEREAS, Julius Breckling came to work for the City of
Little Rock on June 6, 1956; and
WHEREAS, he assumed the role as Director of Parks and
Recreation within the City on October 1, 1962; and
WHEREAS, during his term as Director of Parks and
Recreation he had the vision to see a concept of municipal parks
that would rival any private facilities within the City; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the many fine parks and
recreational facilities created during Mr. Breckling's tenure as
Director of Parks and Recreation he developed the concept of a
park accentuating the City's riverfront vista; and
WHEREAS, Riverfront Park has become a model to be emulated
throughout the country and now serves thousands of tourists and
citizens a year through a combination of activities including
everything from leisurely strolls along the park to events like
Riverfest, Easter sunrise services, and concerts in the
amphitheater; and
WHEREAS, the only way the City can assure that all people
enjoying Riverfront Park will be aware of the vision that
resulted in this wonderful facility is to name the facility in
honor of the man who made the vision a reality; and
WHEREAS, on May 31, 1991, after almost 35 years of service
to the City Julius Breckling is retiring.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. From the date of this resolution forward the
Riverfront Park for the City of Little Rock will hereafter be
named the Julius Breckling Riverfront Park.
