Set vertical stakes and space to avoid penetrating root balls or root masses. ii. Use two stakes for trees up to 12 feet high and 2-1/2 inches or less in caliper; three stakes for trees less than 14 feet high and up to 3 inches in caliper. Space stakes equally around trees. iii.
