CBC 08-05-2010LITTLE ROCK I CITY BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION The City Beautiful Commission held its regular meeting Thursday, August 05, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. at Curran Hall. Chair Homeyer called the meeting to order. MEMBERS ABSENT: Steve Homeyer Walter Jennings Herb Dicker Bill Wiedowe Jennie Cole .� Linda Bell Carrie Young Lynn Warren Betsy Luten Kay Tatum ALSO PRESENT: Christy Marvel, Plans Development Administrator, Department of Planning & Development, City of Little Rock Beth Blevins Carpenter, Deputy City Attorney, City of Little Rock APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Motion: Commissioner Tatum made a motion to accept the CBC minutes with changes noted. Second: Commissioner Dicker seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. ITEM NO. 1-OLD BUSINESS: C.B.C. CASE NO. 615: OLD HAVERTY'S BUILDING Staff noted the applicant had been contacted and did not have a landscape plan ready for review; therefore, City staff recommends deferral of the item until the September 2°d, 2010 meeting. Motion: Vice -chair Wiedower made a motion to defer the item until next months CBC meeting. Second: Commissioner Warren seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. TREASURER'S REPORT: Per Betsy Luten The treasurer data was accidentally left at home; however, the only bill that came in this month has for one CBC badge, equaling less than $10.00. Motion: Commissioner Cole made a motion to accept the expense report. Second: Commissioner Tatum seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. COMMITTEE REPORTS: UPDATES: OLD BUSINESS: Landscape Awards -(Cole, Bell, Homeyer)-Commissioner Cole noted the CBC had made the front page of the "Daily Record" newspaper on Friday, July the 16th, 2010. Copies were distributed to those in interest. The press conference was quite successful and was also mentioned on Channel four (4). Chair Homeyer feels like inviting Mr. Bob Brown, prior Plans Development Administrator for the City of Little Rock to the next CBC meeting, for all the new members to meet. It was discussed that cake and beverages could be ordered at the Community Bakery, approximate servings of sixteen (16) people. Commissioner Cole noted upon hearing from staff, Christy Marvel, of his planned attendance, the order would be made. Discussion commenced on the expense and need for refreshments at this years award ceremony. Due to the economic situation it was decided not to include such this year. Commissioner Warren noted that reserving some seating for those awardees in the Boardroom, front row seat, worked optimally the past few years. Commissioner Warren also noted the photo for the award poster(s) will need voted upon at the September CBC meeting. Eve of the Beholder (Tatum)- Vice -chair Wiedower noted intentions of printing more certificates for the CBC. Chair Homeyer noted intentions of pricing yard signage and reporting the findings to the CBC. Commissioner Jennings noted he'd rewarded one home with signage recently. Community Projects City Hall Rear Entry Garden —no report. ` I-630 Trees -Plans Development Administrator, Christy Marvel, presented a schematic drawing for the Interstate(s) tree planting plan. Discussion commenced and a meeting to finalize some issues is needed prior to the submission to the Arkansas Highway Department for review. The committee will meet and discuss the next steps needed in the process. Ms. Marvel will be meeting with the City of Little Rock's Urban Forester, Mr. Robbie Hudson regarding tree and plant types. Website (Lynn) -no report. Library Exhibit- (Tatum) -Exhibit is resting this month. KLRB (Walter)- Commissioner Jennings noted volunteers were needed this upcoming Saturday for help with a litter survey. Volunteers are meeting at the Hinton Center on 12t' Street at 8:30 a.m., it is expected to be completed by noon. Adopt -A -Street (Wiedower)- Due to the holiday weekend, the pick-up is to meet on Saturday, September the I 11h at the same location. Commissioner Tatum had to leave the meeting. Garden Show 2010-(Lutenl—no report. Communications- (Cole)- Commissioner Cole will meet with Meg Matthews for the landscape awards, and public relations. Awards Committee-(Wiedower, Warren, and Cole) -The awards committee presented their findings on the various awards. City Staff, Christy Marvel, presented an example of the stone for the Polish the Rock Award, there are three stones remaining at Custom Trophies. Discussion commenced on the various awards; more to follow. NEW BUSINESS: Motion: Commissioner Dicker made a motion to adjourn. The dates of your absences were June 3, July 1 and August 5, 2010. The Code of Ordinances of the City of Little Rock states a member of a Board or Commission shall be removed if that member misses more than twenty-five (25) percent of the meetings scheduled in a year or more than three (3) consecutive meetings. This letter is being sent to inform you of the Code provision and your attendance record. To maintain your position on the Commission, it is necessary that you attend all of the remaining meetings scheduled in 2010.
