APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES:
Motion: Commissioner Cole made a motion to accept the CBC minutes for the month of March
with
changes noted.
Second: Commissioner Dicker seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
GUEST SPEAKER: Meg Matthews
Meg Matthews, Public Relations Manager for the City of Little Rock opened noting the more
informed the CBC keeps her with ongoing issues the more publicity she will be able to
recommend. One goal for the CBC is to keep the community aware of what they are doing,
"visually". For example, small segments on television or newspaper with the CBC logo will be
noticed. The general media only needs about twenty-four (24) hours notice prior to an event for
coverage. City Hall will need on average, two (2) weeks notice. The general media decides
around 10:30 a.m. what they intend on covering that day regarding news. Some days are slow
and they are looking for events. Other days, they are swamped with opportunities and the CBC
would be less likely to secure a spot on television.
Commissioner Cole inquired about other avenues or outlets for advertising. Commissioner
Warren described the various awards the CBC distributes throughout the year. Pictures of
people giving awards, is an optimal piece. Segments of awardees interviews or taking a tour of
the award site would be options to consider. Perhaps, the "Lifestyle" section of the paper would
an optimal location for an ad. Pictures of previous award winners could also be considered. All
issues regarding trees and/or landscaping are opportunities for publicity. Statistics and empirical
evidence are both good. For example, "donations increased twenty-five percent (25%) at Mount
Holly after receiving the landscape award." May 3rd is National Arbor Day. Little Rock is a
"Tree City USA" Brochure options were discussed. One possibility might be meeting with a
publishing company. Post cards, handouts, etc. many options were discussed. The City of Little
Rock has a print shop. What opportunities do they offer? The CBC should inquire about the
options for printing through the city print shop.
TREASURER'S REPORT: Per Treasurer: Balance in the account is $1,581.01
Motion: Commissioner Tatum made a motion to accept the treasury report as submitted.
Second: Commissioner Warren seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
COMMITTEE REPORTS: UPDATES:
OLD BUSINESS:
Landscape Awards -Chair Homeyer that he would contact Mr. Lou Schikel, one of last years
landscape award winners, to see if he would be interested in doing a press release of some kind.
Commissioner Warren distributed a landscape award nomination form and a list of all the
previous CBC award winners to the CBC.
Eye of the Beholder (Tatum)- Commissioner Cole noted that doing a Public Service
Announcement (PSA) for the Eye of the Beholder Award should be considered.
Discussion commenced on producing a PSA on May the 3`d at 10:30 a.m. to announce the 2010
Landscape Awards Nominations. In the mean time the press can get video footage of the 2009
Landscape Award Winners: Mt. Holly, Pleasant Valley Shopping Center, and Cal -Ark Trucking
Company.
Motion: Commissioner Warren made a motion to proceed with a news conference announcing
the opening of nominations for the 2010 CBC Landscape Awards.
Second: Commissioner Dicker seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Meg Matthews offered to help in anyway she can, just ask.
Commissioner Warren gave Commissioner Bell a "to do list" from a previous year to help her
have some idea of the issues needing addressed prior to the award ceremony.
It was recommended to limit the Eye Awards to around twenty-five (25) to thirty (30) a year.
Community Proiects
City Hall Rear Entry Garden —no report.
I-630 Trees -Commissioner Dicker noted the preliminary sketches of the area are being
drawn by city staff, Christy Marvel. Commissioner Dicker noted that one of the next issues the
CBC might want to look at is a donation for this endeavor.

contract has been signed. Commissioner Warren will begin working on the new layout and
design of the new site.
Library Exhibit- (Tatum) -Commissioner Tatum and Commissioner Listen discussed the
various planned locations for the CBC exhibit. Christy Marvel noted the CBC has been granted
the use of the exhibit in City Hall for the month of May. Someone will need to be ready to set
the exhibit up early, the first week in May so the display doesn't sit vacant for a long duration.
KLRB (Walter)- Vice -chair Wiedower noted the Citywide clean up is planned for April the
24t . KLRB is still looking for volunteers. For any particulars contact Commissioner Wiedower.
Adopt -A -Street (Wiedower)- It was noted the letters to Wal-Mart and Walgreen's have been
mailed requesting the donation. It was mentioned that perhaps an additional letter should be
composed and mailed regarding the area behind the public right-of-way that has substantial
amounts of litter. Perhaps, the companies have grounds maintenance that can help keep that area
clean.
Garden Show 2010-(Listen) —(no report).
Communications- (Cole)- Commissioner Cole invited the guest speaker, Meg Matthews, to the
CBC meeting this month. The CBC felt she was very helpful and informative.

Recyclintz Letter to Mayor- Chair Homeyer noted the letters had been given to city staff,
Christy Marvel for distribution. Chair Homeyer noted that he would email a copy of the letter to
Commissioner Warren for upload to the CBC website.
It was mentioned that perhaps next year, the CBC might want to have a booth set up at the Little
Rock zoo for Earth Day. Perhaps, have free tree seedlings with the CBC logo tied to it.
Motion: Vice -chair Wiedower made a motion to adjourn.
Second: Commissioner Cole seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Adjournment: 12:35 p.m.
