CBC 02-04-2010LITTLE ROCK I� I CITY BEAUTIFUL CO M M IsstoN The City Beautiful Commission held its regular meeting Thursday, February 4th 2010, at 11:30 a.m. at Curran Hall. Chair Homeyer called the meeting to order. Steve Homeyer Lynn Warren Jennie Cole Betsy Luten- ' Bill Wiedower Kay Tatum vacancy Walter Jennings Linda Bell Herb Dicker ALSO PRESENT: Dana Carney, Zoning and Subdivision Manager, Department of Planning & Development, City of Little Rock Christy Marvel, Plans Development Administrator, Department of Planning & Development, City of Little Rock Beth Blevins Carpenter, Deputy City Attorney, City of Little Rock APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Motion: Commissioner Warren made a motion to accept the CBC minutes for the month of December and January with changes as noted. Second: Commissioner Dicker seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. TREASURER'S REPORT: Per Treasurer: no report, treasurer absent. Chair Homeyer noted an update on the balance be presented at next month's meeting. Mr. Dana Carney, Zoning and Subdivision Manger, noted the CBC had received their normal twenty -five -hundred dollars ($2,500.00) for the 2010 year. COMMITTEE REPORTS: UPDATES: OLD BUSINESS: Landscape Awards -Commissioner Cole encouraged the awareness of the various sites throughout the city instead of waiting until the last minute. Staff was requested to email the 2009 Landscape Award Nominee List out to all CBC. Eye of the Beholder(Tatum)- no report. Chair Homeyer noted there were around sixty (60) signs left and he'd bring to next months meeting. Community Projects City Hall Rear Entry Garden —no report. I-630 Trees -Commissioner Jennings noted the committee was planning to meet in the Planning and Development Department regarding the I-630 corridor project at 1:00 p.m., February the 17th Website(Lynn)-Commissioner Warren handed out a handout reflecting the statistical data on the webpage hit(s). Commissioner Warren continues to work with Aristotle on other outstanding issues. Library Exhibit -(Tatum) -Commissioner Warren noted she had given the exhibit to Commissioner Luten. Locating the exhibit in City Hall was discussed. City staff will inquire about this option and get back with the CBC. KLRB(Walter)- Commissioner Jennings reported the KLRB was currently promoting a city wide clean up. Currently, scheduled for April the 24th, more information will soon follow in form of a letter. Commissioner Warren noted she'd written and mailed the letter to Wal-mart requesting more litter pick-up devices. KLRB is working with the Public Works Department, David Hathcock on sending out letters to all adopters of city streets. Mr. Hathcock is currently working on a new brochure for the Adopt -A -Street program. Adopt-A-Street-(Weidower) no report. Meet as scheduled. Garden Show 2010-(Listen) —The 2010 Garden Show was discussed at length. Assignments given to CBC. The table is being shared with the Iris Society this year; therefore, coordination with them is essential. Communications -(Cole)- Commissioner Cole met with Meg Matthews, PR individual for the City of Little Rock. Ms. Matthews agreed to present/show options the City has available for public relations. The month of April was mentioned. Commissioner Cole will verify and get back with Chair Homeyer. NEW BUSINESS: Recycling Letter to Mayor- Discussion commenced on additional color printed copies. Chair Homeyer will address and get the letters to be mailed to city staff. Inviting various entities to inform the CBC regarding the current status of the recycling in the City of Little Rock was discussed. Melinda Glasgow and someone from BFI, Waste Management were mentioned. Motion: Commissioner Dicker made a motion to adjourn. Second: Commissioner Warren seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
