Dne of the goals of the Little Rock City Beautiful Commission is to promote public
interest in the general improvement of the appearance of the city of Little Rock. To this end, the
City Beautiful Commission has recently established a program for recognizing homeowners
who are contributing to the beautification of Little Rock. In doing so, the Commission seeks to
encourage others to do their part in creating a more pleasing environment for our community.
The public is invited to submit nominations for recognition by the Little Rock City
Beautiful Commission. Homeowners selected will receive a certificate of appreciation.
To be considered, the site should:

The City Beautiful Commission held its regular meeting Thursday, August 2nd, 2012, at
11:30 a.m. at Curran Hall. Chair Wiedower called the meeting to order.

APPROVAL OF THE JULY MINUTES:
Motion: Commissioner Cole made a motion to accept the minutes with changes noted.
Second: Commissioner Cliff seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
It was decided a Slate Committee was needed and should be added to the agenda.
Eve Awards -(Young) -Commissioner Young brought a list updated with all the up-to-date
nominations; photos were also taken. If any site isn't eligible for a landscape award can be
eligible for an Eye of the Beholder Award. Commissioner Young nominated, Nails Medical
Clinic on Main Street.
TREASURER'S REPORT: Conurtissioner Bell noted there was no change in the balance from
last month. The regular CBC account continues to have $1,297.05 to date. It was noted Chair
Wiedower still needs to be reimbursed.
OLD BUSINESS:
COMMITTEE REPORTS: UPDATES:
I-630 Trees Dicker, Minor, Marvel - Vice -chair Dicker noted the next step seems to be to
contact the City Manager, then the Board of Directors; maybe even Assistant City Manager,
Bryan Day.

y Hall -South Yard ome erlWarren -Commissioner Warren noted her son is ill and that

would take inventory of the existing vegetation. Discussion commenced regarding the building

Library Exhibit/History Exhibit Bell/Cliffl_Commissioner Bell, Commissioner Cliff, and
Commissioner Young met at Commissioner Young's office. Many items were discussed
including the following: more color is needed to the exhibit, a new mission statement, larger
photos, a planned digital frame, battery packs, etc. Met with Pat at the Robinson Auditorium and
they requested having historic, old stuff for display. It was also mentioned the Curran Hall has a
display cabinet that may belong to Robinson Auditorium that could possibly be used. Other
optional areas were discussed.
Commissioner Bell noted she would be unable to renew her term as a Commissioner.
It was noted the photos of the award winners should be retaken; perhaps, even on their winning
award sites with the CBC signage. It was also noted 11" X 14" signage frames maybe needed.
Additional venues for display were discussed; maybe River Market. Commissioner Cliff is
checking Boulevard Bread. Currently, art is displayed there. The Convention Center also noted
photos were ok as long as they are framed. Vice -chair Dicker inquired about restaurant display
areas. Chair Wiedower noted a demountable, movable display case might be worth
investigating. It was noted there is a waiting list to display at Community Bakery downtown at
the moment. The Regions Bank on Chenal has one small display.
KLRB (Wiedower)-Chair Wiedower noted he was out of town during the last meeting. He also
noted he is considering applying to be on their Commission.
Ado t-A-Street (Dicker) -It was noted the pickup will commence on September the Bch
Commissioner Cole brought a barrel that worked well in helping to pick up trash.
Information/Communication (Cole) -Commissioner Cole noted she wasn't sure if the ad was
running or not on the LR Access Channel. It was also noted the American Institute of Architects
(AIA) would announce the landscape award open nominations in their July Newsletter. Also, the
Eye of the Beholder Award was published in the Arkansas Dem/Gazette in the Home -style
Addition, Section 3A, on July 14'', 2012.
_Landscape Awards (Home er)-Commissioner Homeyer noted the signs are ready at Mizzell
Signs and will be brought to the next meeting. The presentation will be in October. The
Governors Inn was nominated. At the next CBC meeting the annual PowerPoint by city staff
will commence. CBC requested the list of nominees prior to the meeting.
-Landmark Award (Wiedower)-Chair Wiedower noted he had contacted Custom Trophies
about the award. It was noted the cost would be S55460 for the mounting & engraving of the
rock award. Chair Wiedower noted he'd spoken with City Manager, Bruce Moore. This award
may be presented at the same time as the Annual Landscape Awards.
NEW BUSINESS:
Letter of support for illegal si na a within the City of Little Rock
Chair Wiedower drafted a letter of support for review of the current city signage ordinance. The
rough draft was circulated to the CBC and a few changes made. Chair Wiedower noted he
would make the changes and get the letter sent to City Manager, Bruce Moore, the Mayor, Mark
Stodola, and the CBC.
Motion: Commissioner Warren made a motion to send the letter with the changes proposed to
the City Manager, the Mayor, and to carbon copy the CBC.
Second: Vice -chair Dicker seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
City staff noted the VCC/Hatcher Parking Lot was to be heard soon by the Board of Adjustment.
Slate of Officers
It was noted that Commissioner Linda Bell, Commissioner Homeyer, and Vice -Chair Dickers
terms will be up in October. Commissioner Bell noted she would be unable to renew. Vice -
chair Dicker noted he doesn't want to be considered for Chair and unsure if he would be
renewing at this time for another term. Commissioner Steve Homeyer noted he would serve
another term if re -appointed. He also plans to reapply.
It was noted that there is no written policy regarding sitting on more than one board at a time.
It was noted that Vice -chair Dicker is on the signature card at the bank; however, is not
interested in the Chair, Vice -chair, nor the treasurer position on the CBC.
It was decided that Commissioner Homeyer and Commissioner Warren would come up with the
Slate of Officers and present it at the September CBC meeting.
The CBC September meeting will include the Slate of Officers, the Landscape Awards
Nomination, and the Poster selection for the Landscape Awards.

Motion: Vice -chair Dicker made a motion to adjourn.
Second: Commissioner Warren seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
