REVIEW Chair Wiedower reviewed the sheet on CBC's "Mission, Goal, Duties, and Slogan" (created during the 2007 Planning Retreat with the mission statement revised by January 2012) with the group for discussion. CBC - MISSION, GOAL, DUTIES, AND SLOGAN CITY BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION (CBC) MISSION STATEMENT: THE LITTLE ROCK CITY BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION'S MISSION IS - TO ENHANCE THE CITY'S APPEARANCE AND QUALITY OF LIFE BY PROMOTING AND PROVIDING OVERSIGHT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ITS NATURAL ASSETS. CBC GOAL: PER CITY CODE THE GOAL OF THE LITTLE ROCK CITY BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION (CBC) IS -TO RAISE THE LEVEL OF COMMUNITY EXPECTATION FOR THE QUALITY OF ITS ENVIRONMENT CBC's DUTIES (4): PER CITY CODE 1 REVIEW THE VARIANCE REQUESTS TO THE LANDSCAPE ORDINANCE REVIEW ALL COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT PLANS REQUESTING VARIANCES TO THE REQUIRED LANDSCAPE ORDINANCE. This is a requirement per the Tree City USA registration (2001). CBC was assigned to serve as the governing Tree Board for the City of Little Rock which was added to their duties at that time. 2 PROMOTE THE BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPE IN LITTLE ROCK PROMOTE PUBLIC INTEREST IN THE GENERAL IMPROVEMENT AND APPEARANCE OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK 3 PROVIDE ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY DIRECTIONS & GUIDANCE TO BOD PREPARE AND TRANSMITTO THE LITTLE ROCK CITY BOARD OF DIRECTORS RECOMMENDED ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES AND IMPLEMENT PLANS PREPARED BY AND/OR FOR THE COMMISSION PAGE 1 OF 3 LITTLE ROCK CITY BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION_ 2012 PLANNING RETREAT: MINUTES JANUARY 18, 2012 4. Revise the CBC Mission Statement 2. Awards were consolidated into just three awards 3. Continue involvement in Adopt -A -Street (AAS) , 2012 would be the 8th year of litter cleanup of our street adoption of S. Bowman Street in WLR (since 2002) 4. Networking 5. Continue CBC History exhibit displays in branch libraries each month (since 2009) & at City Hall 6. Continue Website, http://www.ircitybeautifulcommission.c)rg/ which originally debuted May 2007, revised in 2011 7. Dropped CBC participation at the Arkansas Flower & Garden Show after five years 8. Work on the TREE Fund to finalized its purpose and logistics 9. Progress on the 1-630 Beautification project 10. Begin discussion on the establishment of a Tree Pruning Ordinance DIDN'T DO IN 201 1 1. Didn't see the development of the Tree Preservation Ordinance 2. Didn't define and name the 3`d Award (CBC Landmark/Visionary Award) 3. Didn't develop budgets for the committees 4. Didn't identify our 3-5 year goals 5. Didn't identify our top priority projects FUTURE PROJECTS FOR 2012 1. Tree Preservation Ordinance 2. CBC Brochures 3. Pruning education — PSAs, educations tools 4. Give out a Landmark Award to someone (3rd Award) 5. Make business cards for the commissioners with the mission statement on the back 6. Address the CBC budget, City funding of $2,500; review at February meeting 7. Make headway on the 1-630 project, develop timeline 8. Work on beautification of the front of City Hall (short term) 9. Develop an Orientation Notebook for new commissioners (Lynn will prepare a handout with links) 10. Develop procedures for each of the committees for new commissioners 11. Revisit the AR Flower and Garden Show or another venue for outreach 12. Revisit AAS program, move the sign, promote to KLRB 13. Develop a workshop to explain the Landscape Ordinance, Alteration, forestry practices, PSAs? Each committee will present their anticipated budget needed for the year, milestone dates and deadlines at the March commission meeting.
