Adjournment CITY BEAUTIFUL C O M M I S S I O N 500 WEST MARK1 AM ROOM 108 LITTLE ROCK, AR 72201 15011371-17?_all to Order MINUTES June 6, 1996 The City Beautiful Commission held its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, June 6, 1996, in the Sister Cities Conference Room. The Meeting was called to order at 8:15 a.m. by Chairman Frank Riggins. Roll Call Members Present: Frank Riggins Steve Cato Josephine Graham James Laborde Joe Robbins, III Randy Stocks Pat Torvestad Unezcused: Judy Brown Excused: Lin Blair Also Present: Linda Joyce, City Board Director Bob Brown, Neighborhoods and Planning Mark Webre, Parks and Recreation Janeen Freeman, Parks and Recreation Approval of the Minutes: A MOTION WAS MOVED AND PASSED THAT THE COMMISSION APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE MAY MEETING. Polish The Rock: The Westwood Neighborhood Association was awarded a "Polish the Rock" certificate at their quarterly meeting on May 13, 1996. An appreciation letter was received from them thanking the commission for their recognition. Chairman Riggins suggested certificate be drafted of award along with cover letter, and presentation made that explains the nomination for P.T.R. The Train Station (Bailey Corp.) was nominated for a certificate of recognition, but no motion was passed for approval. Mark noted the certificate needed some final touches and these will be presented at next meeting. Landscape Awards: Bob Brown passed out the Annual CBC Landscape Award Recommendation List. Supershell and the Train Station was added. It was suggested that commission members drive by and take a look at these different sites. Bob Brown suggested getting pictures taken afterwhich commission members need to be responsible. After pictures are taken then a vote needs to be addressed as early as the July and as late as the August meetings. Parks and Recreation Update: Mark was pleased with the outcome of the NUSA Conference and the Riverfest. Miscellaneous: Mark will initiate contact with the Government Channel for media purposes. He will also set up a meeting with Karen Reilly and Pat Torvestad to explore the possibilities of a video which emphasizes the different programs CBC offers/promotes and have presentation ready for a future board meeting. Linda Joyce gave a report on the NUSA conference. There were a total of 914 people in attendance at the conference. The City of Little Rock was commended on the friendly people and how beautiful the city was. Conference visitors expressed appreciation of Mayor Dailey of Little Rock and Mayor Hayes of N. Little Rock accessibility to citizens in the metropolitan area. There were Quartz Crystal awards given to 10 recipients for various achievements related to the conference. Chairperson Riggins has brochures left from the NUSA Conference that can be set to a display board in City Hall or at the Airport which also explains what CBC is. Frank will share this with the commissioners at the next meeting. Due to Independence Day, July's CBC Meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 1996 in the Sister Cities conference room at 8:15 a.m. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:40 a.m.
