CBC 02-01-2001The City Beautiful Commission held its regular meeting Thursday, February 1, 2001 at
11:30 a.m. in the Sister Cities Conference Room at City Hall. Meeting was called to
order by Chair Dottie Funk.

Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the January 4, 2001, meeting were approved as
distributed.
Treasurer's Report: Accepted as given.
Discussion: Chair Dottie Funk introduced Frank Riggins and asked him for his
comments regarding the proposed changes to the Commission. Frank said he thought
that the merger of the two commissions was a good idea, but that whatever group is
formed it should keep the regulatory status and be the watchdog for the Landscape and
Tree Preservation Ordinances. Frank said that if it meant transferring to the Planning
Department, then by all means go. Members of the Commission continued to discuss the
matter.
Dottie appointed Tim Heiple and Sharon Vogelpohl to meet with representatives of the
Arts and Humanities Commission to discuss the proposed merger and to determine the
direction of the proposed merged commission.
Old Business
Landscape Awards. Gayle reported that the Landscape Awards Ceremony has
been rescheduled for February 7. Letters have been sent to recipients notifying them
of the new date. Scott said he had the power point presentation ready for
presentation.
0 Polish the Rock. Dottie nominated the River Market Committee to receive a "Polish
the Rock" Award. The committee consists of Jimmy Moses, Dean Kumpuris, John

• Redding, Jim Lawson, and Cy Carney. Motion made and seconded to award a
"Polish the Rock" Award to the River Market Committee. Motion carried.
Miscellaneous Business
Parks & Recreation Report. None
• Deep Arkansas Beautiful Conference. Sharon Vogelpohl told Commissioners
about the KAB Conference to be held in Ft. Smith, February 14 —16, 2001.
Registration is $90.00. Sharon invited City Beautiful Commission members to
attend.
