OF THE
BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
The board of Adjustment met in the Mayor's Conference Room, City
Hall, Monday, September 17, 1951, at 2:00 P. M., with the following mem-
bers present:
Mr. Louis Tarlowski
Mr. Warren Baldwin
Mr. Bruce Anderson
Miss Emily Penton
Mr. W. H. Marak
Miss Emily Penton, the Vice Chairman, was acting as Chairman.
Docket No. 49-51 - Mrs. J. D. McDonald, 1624 East 6th
Street, described as Lot 9, and East 2 of Lot S. Block
18, Garland Addition, zoned "K" Heavy Industrial District;
requesting waiver of yard space requirements and 2 build-
ings on 1 and L Lots in order to face house on Parker
Street.
No one was present to represent this petition. Mr. Stephens ex-
plained to the members what Mrs. McDonald proposes to do and the descrip-
tion of the area in that Neighborhood. Everyone agreed that; this proposal
would be an improvement to thfit area. There were no objections to this
petition. Mr. Anderson made a motion it be granted; seconded by Mr. Marak.
The motion carried.
Docket No. 5M-51 - Forest Park Methodist Church, by
J. F. Bishop, 1719 North Pierce Street, described as
Lot 10, Block 22, Mountain Park Addition; zoned "A"
One -Family District; requesting permission to convert
church building into masonic lodge.
Several people were present inclading the minister who was the
spokesman for the group. He stated they are in the process of selling
present property for the lodge. They have been meeting in the basement
for a period of one year. He thinks they have complied with all the
regulations so far as they know. They have notified all the people, and
there were no objections. Miss Penton made a motion it be granted; sec-
onded by Mr. Baldwin. The motion carried.
Docket No. 51-51 - Mr. W. S. Rogers, 5424 Kavanaugh Blvd.,
described as Lot 8, Block 23, Newton Addition; requesting
waiver of side and rear yard space requirements so as to
construct kindergarten.
Mr. Rogers was present and he gave a description of his property.
He wants to build on the back of his lot as near to the property line as
possible. He had the petition signed by all property owners within 140
feet, and there was no objection. The building will be frame; one story,
and two school rooms. He stated they are ready for construction as the
Health Department has approved his plans. Mr. Hogers stated they are
already operating the kindergarten - began the /+th of this month. His
wife had a kindergarten for many years at 414 Pine Street. Mr. Tarlowski
made a motion it be granted; seconded by Mr. Marak. The motion carried.
Docket No. 52-51 - Mrs. Jeff Guthridge, 2519 North
Pierce Street, described as South 22 and " feet of
Lot 2, and all of Lot 3, Block 26, Park View Addition;
zoned "All One -Family District; requesting waiver -,f
side yard space requirements so as to construct car
port.
Mrs. Guthridge was present and sh,� stated there are two drive-
ways --one belongs to her and the other belongs to her neighbor. Mrs.
Guthridge said she lives in the middle of the block. She has 722' front-
age. She stated that the port will be open with a flat top and attached
to the house. There were no objections. Mr. Marak made a motion it be
granted; seconded by Mr. Tarlowski. The motion carried.
Docket No. 53-51 - The Church of the Nazarene, -by
H. P. Poindexter, Battery Street and Maryland Ave.,
described as Lots 7, 8, 9, and 10, Block 4, Marshall
and Wolfe Addition, and pert of Lot 11, Block 4, Faust
Addition zoned "C" Two -Family District; requesting waiver of
side and rear yard space requirements to permit construc-
tion of Educational Building.
Judge Bricker represented this petition, accompanied by Mr.
Poindexter. Judge Bricker stated there is 1751 frontage on the west
side of the property. The proposed building will be 61-1_10" north of
Maryland Avenue and it will be steel and concrete. There will be 41
on west line if the building is constructed. They plan to tear down
frame building in four or five years. It is located on the north side
of the church And east of the proposed building. The new building will
be two stories high. Mr. Anderson made a motion it be granted; seconded
by Mr. Baldwin. The motion carried.
The meeting was then adjourned.
