The Little Hock Hoard of Adjustment met in the Council Chamber, City Hall, on
May 21, 1956 at 2:00 P. M. The following members were presents

Docket No. 3-56 — Gaines Street Baptist Church, (bar 0. A. Cates)
16th and Gaines Streets, described as Lots One
(1) and Two (2) and the west 50 feet of Lot
Twelve (12), north 25 feet of west 50 Feet of
Lot Eleven (11), Block Two hundred fifteen
(215), Original City, zoned "Ell Apartment
District, requesting a variance from the front,
rear, and side yard provisions of Section
Eleven (11) and Twelve (12), Ordinance No: 5420
to permit construction of an extension to Gaines
Street Baptist Church.
Mr. Phillips wad present to represent the church and Mr: Raines was present as
an interested property owner.
Mr. Phillips explained the request and the plat to the Board members. He said
that there is a number of small frame buildings on the property at this time and the
a waiver is being requested in order to locate the sanctuary nearer to the street,
that they may utilize all of their property. Mr. Raines was concerned with how clo-
the building proper would come to his property. When he was told that it would coma
to within five feet he stated he had no objections.
Mrs. Turley, . who lives at 1612 Gaines Street was present and stated that she wi
noncerned with how close the building would be to her property and also with the
drainage problem as she was very unhappy with the fact that pert of her soil had
already been washed away. She was told that the building would come to within five
feet of her property and that the drainage problem could be worked out. She asked
if a bush on the corner could be removed and said if so, she would have her yard mar -
move it.
In the e.7cutive session there was a discussion of the church' s plans for off—
street parking. Mr. Anderson said they had none and planned tb park on the streets
on Sunday. He added that the church expected to buy property around them to allow
for expansion and that the church is now taking bids for the job and will probably
just build the sanctuary at the present time. It was noticed on the plat that the
building would come right to tors. Turley's property line and there was some questiol,
as to whether or not she understood this. Mr. Anderson said he would try to solve
-her drainage problem for her and get her bush moved.
Mr. Baldwin moved that the request be granted, Mr. Anderson seconded and the
motion carried.

The revised plat of the Riley Memorial Church of Gad was reconaiderod at tht-S
time and the membeka agreed that the arrangement had been improved.
Mr. Anderson moved that the application be approved as proposed on the revised
site plan; Mr. Baldwin seconded and the motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 4:00 P. M,
