There being a quorum present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 2:00 P.M. in the Mayor's Conference Room. A motion was made for approval of the minutes as mailed,which was seconded and passed unanimously. Action was taken as follows: Tract No. 1 - Z-2250 Applicant: Dr. Raymond C. Cook, by Harold L. Dreyfuss, Agent Location: 700 Block between I-30 and Collins Street Description: All of Block 5, Woodruff's Addition Classification: "I" -Light Industrial District Variance: Requests a Variance from the height Provisions of Section 43-16 of the Code of Ordinances to permit construction of a nine -story motor hotel and restaurant Mr. Harold L. Dreyfuss, agent, was present. There were no objectors. A Howard Johnson Motor Motel is proposed for the site having 8 stories (above the restaurant on the ground floor) with a swimming pool on the roof,,, Mr. Dreyfuss was informed that for the 150 units an equal number of parking spaced would be required under the Code of Ordinances, leaving them 12 spaces short as now proposed which must be provided on the same tract. The applicant suggested that the additional parking spaces could be provided under the building. - Mr. Roy Sharpe, Postmaster and James L. Swaim, Postal Real Estate Officer, were present, Board of Adjustment Minutes - JanuaU 20;1969 and opposed any off-street parking on the east side of Collins Street for this proposed development, which is the site of the proposed New Post Office facility. A motion was made for approval of the application provided the applicant complies with the parking requirements and location thereof as set forth by the City Zoning Ordinance. The motion was seconded and passed. Tract No. 2 - Z-2256 Applicant: Location: Description: Classification: Faith Assembly of God Church 1200 Rice Street Long legal "C"-Two-family District Variance: Requests a Variance from all the applicable provisions of Section 43 of the Code of Ordinances to permit erection of new church building Robert Adams Mr. Basalxftwax" , Pastor of the Church, was present. There were no objectors. He explained their need to move since in the widening of 12th Street, the steps and front porch of the Church had to be removed as they extended into the right-of-way. They plan to tear down the present structure. The property immediately south of the present building is owned by theChurch and is now used for educational purposes. They propose to rebuild with a capacity of 130 seats. The church has an average attendance of 55'to 60, but only 25 on the active roll. After much discussion as to the Church's problems involved in the construction of its new building, a motion was made to defer action on the matter until the February 17, 1969 meeting to give the applicant additional time to arrange its financing and redesign the building. The motion was seconded and passed. Tract No. 3 - Z-2254 Applicant: Location: Description: Classification: Variance: Joseph Kaufman 4509 West 12th Street Lots 11, 12 Block 6, Buhler's 9th Addition 'IF" -Commercial District Requests a Variance from the Rear Yard Setback Provisions of Section 43-15 of the Code of Ordinances to permit addition to existing commercial building Mr. Joseph Kaufman, applicant, was present. There were no objectors. Mr. Kaufman said the proposed addition was necessary to make it possible for his tenant to expand his business as he needs additional room for office space. There is no way to expand the building to the rear because of a large open ditch, nor upwards because of a precast concrete rood on the building.
