A quorum was present and the meeting continued. The application
under consideration was the request by Goldman and Company filed by
Mr. Yandell Johnson, Architect.
Mr. Lyons reported that he had talked with Mr. Goldman and
Mr. Johnson. Mr. Johnson said if the city wants them to move back
for the widening of Reyburn-Baxter Street, they should consider buying
the right-of-way. Mr. Lyons said he told them the trucks would
probably Ifun into his building if he put it so close to the street.
They answered that they would have to jump a ditch three foot deep
and hit a telephone pole if they did. Mr. Breckling said he did
not think the ditch was that deep and that the pole can always be
moved. Mr. Lyons said Mr. Goldman and Mr. Johnson said if the
Board wants them to set back they should ask them to make it more
than five feet, or enough to do some good. The reason for placing
it so close to the corner is so that the office building will be
on the corner in order that they will be able to see their whole
operation. They maintain that they are before the Board asking a
variance of the requirement of no more than one building on one
parcel of land and that the Board should not be ccncerned with their
setback.
These things were discussed further; after which Mr. Meeks
moved that this application be approved if the building is -setback
ten feet from Reyburn-Baxter Street right-of-way, or if they locate
the office building and put it on the property line somewhere else
on 13th Street, Miss Penton seconded this motion and it carried
unanimously.
