HDC_03 17 1989City of Little Rock HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION LITTLE ROCK HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION MINUTES MARCH 17, 1989 The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by acting Chairman Thomas Johnson. A quorum was present - Thomas Johnson, John Jarrard, and Kathleen McNally. William Kennedy, III and Cheryl Nichols were absent. City Attorney Stephen Giles was present. Commissioner Johnson asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion was wade by Commissioner Jarrard and seconded by Commissioner McNally to approve the minutes. Motion passed. Item #1 - The Arkansas Art Center Additions & Modifications Mr. Gene Levy, Cromwell Architects & Engineers, presented the project for the Arts Center. 'nk Mr. Levy explained plans for the addition of a new gallery and for modifications to the existing entrance area. He stated that the new gallery (the Strauss Gallery) would be an addition of a single bay to the northwest of the building adding 1,2S0 square feet of gallery space to the floor area. The entrance modifications would create a new entry through the garden requiring opening a portion of the brick wall, installing a steel gate for security and moving the signage to the wall behind the fountain. The only other modification visable from the exterior would be an added elevator shaft. Ms. Jennifer Polk, Executive Director of the Quapaw Quarter Association, was present and spoke in favor of the project. Ms. Angela Meeks with the State Historic Preservation Program was present and stated that they were in support of the project. There were no objectors present. Commissioner Jarrard made a motion to approve the application as submitted. Commissioner McNally seconded. Motion passed. 3 ayes; 0 naves.
