CBC_12 06 2018The City Beautiful Commission held its regular meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 06, 2018, at Curran Hall, 615 E. Capitol Avenue. Chairman, Harvey called the meeting to order. MEMBERS PRESENT: Michael Harvey BJ Sanders-Woods Steve Homeyer Ed Peek Bobby Cushman Bob Winchester Melissa Henshaw MEMBERS ABSENT: Four Open Positions ALSO PRESENT: D.Tracy Spillman, Plans Development Administrator, Department of Planning and Development, City of Little Rock. APPROVAL OF THE MAY MEETING MINUTES: Chairman Harvey entertained a motion to approve the November 2018 Minutes. Motion: Commissioner Homeyer made a motion that the November 01, 2018 Minutes be approved. Second: Commissioner Cushman seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. TREASURER’S REPORT: Expense Report: Commissioner Cushman stated that the interest on the account has increased $.63 since his last report, and the total of the account is now $407.34. COMMITTEE REPORTS, UPDATES: Community Projects City Hall South Yard: Commissioner Homeyer stated that there was nothing new report and that he is waiting for the new Mayor to be instated before restarting this project. Public Relations Commissioner Henshaw stated that the City Facebook page has received additional “likes”. It was also requested that any information that the other commissioners would like to see posted be sent to her attention. Commissioner Homeyer suggested posting a picture of this month’s CBC meeting and Staff member Spillman took a photo to be forwarded to Commissioner Henshaw. KLRB: Commissioner Henshaw stated that the final KLRB meeting of the year took place last week. It was also stated that the City of Little Rock’s Adopt-A-Street Coordinator, Mr. Glenn Haley was present and provided statistics for the 2018 year. It was stated that Mr. Haley conveyed that there were fifteen new groups that have signed up to adopt a highway, eight groups have been dropped for lack of contact, and there are now 217 groups signed up for the program which includes 162 miles of streets in Little Rock, Additionally, it was stated that twenty-two new adopt-a-street street signs have been placed. Commissioner Henshaw presented a list of the new groups that have joined adopt-a-street and it was noted that CBC Chairman, Mr. Michael Harvey has solely adopted street by himself. Commissioner Henshaw also stated that the Rainbow Bridge project that was reported on in a previous meeting is still on ongoing. This project is located in Allsopp Park and will commemorate deceased pets. Adopt-A-Street: Commissioner Cushman stated that the November cleanup had been accomplished with he had Commissioner Winchester in attendance. It was further discussed and decided that a new adopt-a-street chairman would be chosen at the CBC retreat in January. Eye of the Beholder: Commissioner Homeyer stated that there is nothing new to report. Landscape Awards: Commissioner Homeyer stated that there is nothing new to report. The commissioner also provided an invoice for the 2019 Landscape Award signs which totaled $277.95. T.R.E.E Fund: Commissioner Homeyer stated that the Arvest Bank T.R.E.E Fund project located at 4400 W. Markham has been completed. City Beautiful Exhibit: The commissioner’s generally discussed where the exhibit items are located and where they can be displayed in the future. It was decided that this would be discussed further at the retreat. NEW BUSINESS: Commissioner Sanders-Woods stated that she would like to assume the duties as the Eye-of-the- Beholder Chair. Motion: Commissioner Homeyer made a motion that Commissioner Sanders-Wood’s be elected chair of the Eye-of-the-Beholder Chair committee. Second: Commissioner Cushman seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Commissioner Homeyer stated that the CBC retreat has been scheduled for January 23, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. and will take place at Mangan Holcomb Partners, 2300 Cottondale Ln. Commissioner Cushman introduced a guest that he had invited to observe the CBC. Mr. Calvin Smith discussed his interest in the CBC and the City of Little Rock and how he possibly would apply for appointment as a commissioner. Commissioner Homeyer then gave a brief summary of the CBC and the duties that this commission performs. ANNOUNCEMENTS: The next regularly scheduled meeting will be Thursday, January 03, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. The next Adopt-A-Street pickup will be decided at the January meeting. ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Homeyer entertained a motion to adjourn. Motion: Commissioner Peek made a motion to adjourn. Second: Commissioner Henshaw seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
