CBC_04 05 2018The City Beautiful Commission held its regular meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 05, 2018, at Curran Hall, 615 E. Capitol Avenue. Chairman, BJ Sanders-Woods called the meeting to order. MEMBERS PRESENT: BJ Sanders-Woods Melissa Henshaw Steve Homeyer Wally Loveless Justin Blagg Janet Wilson Bobby Cushman Bob Winchester Michael Harvey MEMBERS ABSENT: Michael Mason Ed Peek ALSO PRESENT: Beth Carpenter, City Attorney’s Office D.Tracy Spillman, Plans Development Administrator, Department of Planning and Development, City of Little Rock. APPROVAL OF THE MARCH MEETING MINUTES: Chairman Sanders-Woods entertained a motion to approve the March 2018 Minutes. Motion: Commissioner Cushman made a motion that the March 01, 2018 Minutes be approved. Second: Commissioner Henshaw seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. WELCOME NEW COMMISSIONER: Chairman Sanders-Woods introduced newly appointed Commissioner Mr. Michael Harvey. The other commissioners and Staff introduced themselves and gave a brief history of their CBC involvement. TREASURER’S REPORT: Expense Report: Commissioner Cushman provided a printed Treasury Report to each of the commissioners and briefly discussed the balance in the account. It was also stated that after the last reimbursement check clears the balance of the CBC account will be $403.64. Commissioner Homeyer inquired about the balance of the City of Little Rock’s CBC annual monetary allotment. Staff Member Spillman agreed to make an inquiry and provide this information at the next meeting. COMMITTEE REPORTS, UPDATES: Community Projects City Hall South Yard: Commissioner Homeyer stated that he will present the previously approved plan for this project at the next CBC meeting. Public Relations The commissioners discussed the need to contact former Commissioner Mr. Chris Hancock to obtain access to the CBC Facebook page. It was also discussed that Commissioner’s Blagg and Henshaw will share the Public Relations committee’s responsibilities. KLRB: Commissioner Henshaw stated that the March 10, City Wide Cleanup was a success and briefly summarized the event activities. Chairman Sanders-Woods reported on the AR Flower and Garden Show. The commissioners then discussed in general terms the opportunities that next year’s show may present for the CBC. Adopt-A-Street: Commissioner Loveless stated that he had taken photos from the last pickup that will need to be posted to the CBC Facebook page. The commissioners then discussed the trash and vagrant problem that has presented itself in the Rock Creek Park vicinity of the Bowman Rd Bridge. The discussion focused on how this area could be addressed and improved. Eye of the Beholder: Chairman Sanders-Woods reminded the commissioners that each had agreed to try and nominate a minimum of two properties for this award. Commissioner Loveless provided and updated text for the nomination cards. After reading this aloud to the other commissioners they discussed and made minor suggestions. After the discussion all agreed for Commissioner Loveless to have the new cards printed. Commissioner Loveless stated that he would provide the new cards at the next regularly scheduled meeting. Landscape Awards: Commissioner Homeyer stated that nominations are open through the end of August. He then explained this award and its purpose to new commissioner Mr. Harvey. T.R.E.E Fund: Commissioner Homeyer stated the Bowman Road Project was only partially completed due to the impending street widening project in this area. Commissioner Loveless reported that he had acquired the street widening plans for Bowman Road from Mr. Mike Hood in the City of Little Rock’s Public Works Department. The commissioner stated that he had requested these to verify that there would be enough space to plant the remainder of the trees from the partially completed project. The commissioners then discussed the possibilities for the remaining unplanted trees if these cannot be installed after the widening project is complete. Commissioner Homeyer then explained the T.R.E.E Fund process and its purpose to new commissioner Mr. Harvey. City Beautiful Exhibit: The commissioners generally discussed the items that are to be included in this exhibit. Commissioner Loveless then stated that he would contact the former chairman of this committee Mr. Chris Hancock to discuss or acquire the CBC items that are being stored with the Department of Arkansas Heritage. NEW BUSINESS: There was no new business. ANNOUNCEMENTS: The next regularly scheduled meeting will be Thursday, May 03, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. The next Adopt-A-Street pickup will be Saturday April 28, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. ADJOURNMENT: Motion: Commissioner Winchester made a motion to adjourn. Second: Commissioner Henshaw seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
