CBC_12 07 2017The City Beautiful Commission held its regular meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 07, 2017, at Curran Hall, 615 E. Capitol Avenue. Chairman, BJ Sanders-Woods called the meeting to order. MEMBERS PRESENT: BJ Sanders-Woods Melissa Henshaw Steve Homeyer Wally Loveless Justin Blagg Ed Peek Bobby Cushman Bob Winchester Chris Hancock MEMBERS ABSENT: Starre Haas Janet Wilson ALSO PRESENT: Beth Carpenter, City Attorney’s Office D.Tracy Spillman, Plans Development Administrator, Department of Planning and Development, City of Little Rock. New Commissioner, Mr. Justin Blagg introduced himself to the Commission and stated how he came to be involved with the CBC. Each Commissioner and Staff member introduced themselves to Commissioner Blagg. APPROVAL OF THE OCTOBER MINUTES: Chairman Sanders-Woods entertained a motion to approve the previous meetings minutes. Motion: Commissioner Homeyer made a motion that the October 05, 2017 Minutes be approved. Second: Commissioner Cushman seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. TREASURER’S REPORT: Expense Report: Commissioner Cushman acting as the newly appointed CBC Treasurer stated that he had contacted the City of Little Rock’s Treasury Manager, Mr. Scott Massanelli to have his name placed on the signature card and also have former CBC Treasurer, Carrie Young’s name removed. Commissioner Cushman also reported the balance of the CBC account is $559.24. The commissioners then generally discussed the CBC account and the funds allotted from the City each year and how these finances are to be used. COMMITTEE REPORTS, UPDATES: Community Projects City Hall South Yard: Commissioner Homeyer stated that there is nothing new to report. Public Relations Commissioner Hancock stated that the CBC Facebook page now has 542 “Likes”. KLRB: Commissioner Henshaw stated she had attended the last KLRB meeting which was held at the Waste Management recycling plant. The commissioners then discussed the recycling process and voiced interest in visiting this facility. Commissioner Henshaw also reported that the Adopt-A-Street program has added twenty-one (21) new groups in 2017 for a total of 212 volunteer groups that cover 158 miles. The commissioner also announced that the city wide cleanup would be March 10 and be kicked off at Boyle Park. Adopt-A-Street: Commissioner Loveless stated that a pickup needed to be scheduled. The commissioners discussed dates and decided on Saturday, December 08, 2017. Eye of the Beholder: There was no new report. Landscape Awards: Commissioner Homeyer stated Landscape Award presentation at the Board of Directors meeting went well and that all of the recipients were appreciative. Commissioner Loveless stated that he had acquired photos from the presentation and asked Commissioner Hancock to post these on Facebook. T.R.E.E Fund: Commissioner Homeyer stated that he has spoken with Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation, MR. Mark Webre concerning the installation of the Bowman Road tree project. Mr. Webre has requested that this project be delayed until January. City Beautiful Exhibit: Commissioner Hancock stated that he has recently spoken with the staff from the Historic Arkansas Museum but there have been no new developments. Commissioner Hancock then explained this project to new Commissioner Blagg. NEW BUSINESS: Commissioner Homeyer stated the CBC annual retreat will need to be scheduled for January. After the commissioners discussed possible dates Wednesday January 10, 17, or 24 were presented as possible options. Commissioner Homeyer then stated he would verify these dates with Ms. Julie Robbins at Mangan Holcomb Partners and also verify that Ms. Robbins would be willing to act as facilitator for the meeting and that the Mangan Holcomb conference room would be available. Staff Member Spillman agreed to inform the commissioners when the date of the meeting is set after Commissioner Homeyer confirms the retreat arrangements. ANOUNCEMENTS: The next meeting will be Thursday, January 04, 2017, at 11:30 am Adopt-A-Street Pickup date will be December 09, 2017 at 8:00am. ADJOURNMENT: Motion: Commissioner Loveless made a motion to adjourn. Second: Commissioner Cushman seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 12:26pm.
