CBC 2016_Retreat Minutes 03 09 2016 The City Beautiful Commission held its annual retreat Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at Mangan Holcomb Partners in Riverdale. Chairman Ed Peek called the meeting to order. MEMBERS PRESENT: Ed Peek Jordan Thomas Steve Homeyer Janet Wilson Chris Hancock Bob Winchester Wally Loveless Carrie Young Chris Morgan MEMBERS ABSENT: Becka Webb One Open Position ALSO PRESENT: Julie Robbins, Mangan Holcomb Partners, Facilitator D. Tracy Spillman, Plans Development Administrator, Department of Planning and Development, City of Little Rock. CITY BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION – COMMITTEES The commissioners discussed each committee and the projects and goals associated with each. It was also decided which commissioners would serve on each committee. Awards 1. Website Co-Chair: Chris Hancock Social Media / Networking Chris Morgan Other Cities Committee City Beautiful Exhibit INTRODUCTIONS: Commissioners and staff introduced themselves and explained their involvement with the City Beautiful Commission. Facilitator Julie Robbins takes direction of the meeting and with interaction from the commissioners the opportunities that were missed in the previous year were discussed. OVERVIEW OF THE PAST YEAR: 2015 Missed Opportunities:  More nominations for Eye of the Beholder  More deadlines to drive results and actions.  Not spending the T.R.E.E Fund and City’s allocation.  Advocacy / Lobbying involving the CBC liaison to the City Board of Directors, Dean Kumpuris  Completing and utilizing the CBC exhibit. After discussion of the missed opportuneness of the past Facilitator Robins directs the commissioners to consider the priorities of the CBC for 2016. 2016 PRIORITIES: To Do List:  Set goals and deadlines for each commissioner to make nominations for Eye of the Beholder.  Establish timelines for award programs.  Facebook engagement, -Pledge by commissioners to share posts  Marketing materials -One page flyer -Brochure  Compile list of organizations to be reached with marketing and communication. -Garden Clubs -Neighborhood Associations -Master Gardener groups  Liaisons -KLRB -Master Gardeners -POA’s  Setup Gmail Account  Complete T.R.E.E Fund Project  Develop relationship with the city arborist/ Robbie Hudson.  Recruit commissioners  Involve, Educate, Inspire as commissioners.  Reestablish Commissioner Handbook / Bylaw Manual  Consider trees in medians, University Ave / T.R.E.E Fund  Complete a/any project  Post more photos on Facebook  Amend / waive T.R.E.E Fund ordinance for a specific project. The commissioners discussed priorities in detail and chose the following as their top priorities for 2016 TOP PRIORITIES 2016:  Complete a T.R.E.E Fund project  Set goals and deadlines for each commissioner to make nominations for Eye of the Beholder.  Reestablish Commissioner Handbook / Bylaw Manual  Facebook engagement, -Share posts -Invite friends -Education seminar for the commissioners.
