CBC_04 06 2017The City Beautiful Commission held its regular meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 06, 2017, at Curran Hall, 615 E. Capitol Avenue. Chairman BJ Sanders-Woods called the meeting to order. MEMBERS PRESENT: BJ Sanders-Woods Wally Loveless Steve Homeyer Ed Peek Bobby Cushman Bob Winchester Starre Haas Janet Wilson Chris Hancock Carrie Young Melissa Henshaw MEMBERS ABSENT: ALSO PRESENT: Beth Carpenter, City Attorney’s Office D. Tracy Spillman, Plans Development Administrator, Department of Planning and Development, City of Little Rock APPROVAL OF THE MARCH MINUTES: Chairman Sanders-Woods entertained a motion to approve the previous months minutes with corrections. Motion: Commissioner Homeyer made a motion that the March 02, 2017 Minutes be approved. Second: Commissioner Young seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. TREASURER’S REPORT: Expense Report: Commissioner Young stated: No pay-outs have been made since the last meeting and there is a balance $556.35 in the account. COMMITTEE REPORTS, UPDATES: Community Projects City Hall South Yard: Commissioner Homeyer stated: That this project is on hold until the Bowman Rd project is finished. Public Relations In follow up to last month’s discussion concerning additional administrators for the CBC Facebook page Commissioner Hancock stated the commissioners serving on this committee will first need to be added as “friends” before administration rights can be provided. In addition to Commissioner Henshaw, Commissioner Young also requested to be added to this list. Commissioner Hancock also noted that in last month’s meeting Commissioner Peek proposed that City Staff also have administration rights to the Facebook page. Staff member Spillman agreed to serve as the City’s Facebook contact. KLRB: Commissioner Henshaw stated that she had attended the last KLRB meeting. It was then stated that the discussion mostly concerned the recent city wide trash pick-up. Commissioner Henshaw noted that thirty seven groups and over five hundred volunteers had participated in this event. Adopt-A-Street: Commissioner Loveless stated that the last pick up was successful. It was then purposed the next cleanup be in two weeks on April 22nd. Eye of the Beholder: Commissioner Young stated that one new nomination has been made but the certificate has not mailed due to the certificate signatures needing to be updated. Chair Sanders-Woods then signed the awards and Staff Member Spillman agreed to secure Mayor Stodola’s signature on the remainder of the certificates. The certificate will be mailed to the award recipient when all signatures have been obtained. Landscape Awards: Commissioner Homeyer stated these nominations will open at the beginning of May and will stay open through August. T.R.E.E Fund: Commissioner Homeyer stated that he had met with City Arborist, Robbie Hudson at the Bowman Rd tree project to review the plant materials to be removed. Mr. Hudson then had the site cleared as discussed within two days of this meeting. Commissioner Homeyer then stated that he has instructed Bemis Tree Farm to dig the six trees required for this project. When this is accomplished Commissioner Homeyer stated that he will then contact Mr. Hudson again to move forward with the installation. Updates will be forthcoming. City Beautiful Exhibit: Commissioner Hancock stated that he has been working with the Historic Arkansas Museum to provide a small temporary exhibit and possibly have this included in one of the Second Friday Art Nights. Commissioner Hancock then stated he will continue to give updates as he hears from the museum staff. NEW BUSINESS: There was no new business. ANOUNCEMENTS: The next meeting will be Thursday, May 04, 2017, at 11:30 am. Adopt-A-Street Pickup will be Saturday April 22, 2017 at 8:00 am. ADJOURNMENT: Motion: Commissioner Peek made a motion to adjourn. Second: Commissioner Young seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 12:07 pm.
