3 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TEMPORARY USE OF THE R-6,
4 HIGH-RISE RESIDENTIAL, ZONED PROPERTY LOCATED ON THE
5 EAST SIDE OF THE 1600 BLOCK OF CHESTER STREET, FOR
6 STUDENT HOUSING FOR PHILANDER SMITH COLLEGE
7 (Z-9163); AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

9 WHEREAS,Philander Smith College has experienced an increase in student enrollment; and,
10 WHEREAS,that increase in student enrollment has led to a shortage of on-campus student housing
11 resulting in some students having to be housed in area hotels; and,
12 WHEREAS, Philander Smith College does have plans to construct additional student housing
13 facilities on the college campus in the future; and,
14 WHEREAS,Philander Smith College has proposed to develop a temporary student housing complex
15 on the R-6, High-Rise Residential, zoned property located on the east side of the 1600 Block of Chester
16 Street to alleviate the student housing shortage.
17 NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY
18 OF LITTLE ROCK,ARKANSAS.
19 Section 1. The Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas hereby approves the
20 temporary use of the R-6 zoned property located on the east side of the 1600 Block of Chester Street for a
21 student housing complex for Philander Smith College.
22 Section 2. Said temporary use is approved through June 1, 2018.
23 Section 3. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption.
