13549 ORDINANCE NO. 13 549.
AN _ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A SMALL CLAIMS
COURT FOR THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK AND FOR
OTHER PURPOSES .
WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock has the statutory authority
to establish a small claims court for the City of Little Rock;
and
WHEREAS, such a court system would be of great benefit to
the City and to the citizens; and
WHEREAS, both municipal judges have assented to the proposal;
and
WHEREAS, legislation will be introduced in the upcoming
session of the State Legislature which would set:-up the system
county-wide and provide for county funding; and
WHEREAS, a local attorney has volunteered to serve free of
charge as adjudicator until March or April of 1979; and
WHEREAS, the court will cease to function if the legislation
is not passed and the county does not pick up the funding at
that point.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT :ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS.
SECTION• l. A small claims court for the City of Little Rock '
is hereby established.
SECTION 2. Municipal Court Judge Butler is authorized to
appoint a volunteer adjudicator who will serve until March or
April, 1979.
SECTION 3 . If the State Legislature does not approve of
legislation for a county-wide system, the court shall cease to
exist.
SECTION 4. The City of Little Rock will provide clerical
assistance to work in the office, supply information and distri-
bute complaint forms.
SECTION 5. The City Attorney and the City Manager are hereby
authorized to work with the Municipal Judges to implement the
court system plan.
SECTION 6. This ::Ordinance:. shall be in full force and effect
