5823 RESOLUTION NO 5,523 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE ARKANSAS POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY' S PETITION BEFORE THE INTERSTATE COMMERCE COMMISSION TO ESTABLISH JUST AND REASON- ABLE RAILROAD FREIGHT RATES; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES WHEREAS, the Arkansas Power & Light Company has made plans to purchase coal from a mine in Wyoming to be transported by railroad to its White Bluff Generating Station near Redfield, Arkansas; and WHEREAS, the freight rates as proposed by the railroads to be charged for transporting this fuel appear unreasonably high and would necessarily increase the cost of electric energy to the Arkansas consumers; and WHEREAS , the Arkansas Power and Light Company has filed its complaint with the Interstate Commerce Commission requesting the Commission to estab- lish just and reasonable freight rates for the scheduled coal shipments . NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS . SECTION 1. The City of Little Rock, Arkansas hereby endorses and supports the request of Arkansas Power and Light Company to have the Interstate Commerce Commission of the federal government establish just and reasonable rates to be charged by the railroads to be utilized in transporting coal from the state of Wyoming to the Arkansas Power and Light Company ' s White Bluff Generating station now under construction near Redfield, Arkansas .
